My name is Lonny Pulkrabek, and I'm running for the Iowa House here in District 73. The district includes Cedar County and parts of Johnson and Muscatine Counties.
I grew up in La Porte City on my family's acreage. I spent my childhood pitching in wherever I could - baling hay, walking beans, and castrating hogs. From an early age I learned the value of hard work and the importance of community.
My wife, Julie, and I have lived in this district for over 35 years. We've been married for 29 years, and have an adult son named Sam. Julie is a local attorney with her own practice. Our son, Sam, works full-time at Transamerica.
I've served as the Sheriff of Johnson County for the last 15 years. I started at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in July of 1985 as a Deputy Sheriff. While serving as a Deputy, I worked with a small group of coworkers to organize our office. We later joined PPME 2003 - the union that still represents the Sheriff's office today.
In 2004, I won the Johnson County Sheriff's race and assumed office in 2005. I've won re-election four times, and am in my 15th year of service.
During my time as Sheriff, we introduced and expanded mental health and crisis intervention training so our officers were better prepared for any situation. I partnered with various agencies to
increase coordination and decrease emergency response times. I also worked with local elected officials to put more officers on rural roads.
In 2017, I served as President of the Iowa State Sheriffs' & Deputies Association. Then in 2018, I became President of the Iowa State Association of Counties. Both times, I was elected by Democrats & Republicans.
In my free time, I can be found biking around the district, riding my motorcycle, or out for a walk with our dog Goldie.
After 35 years in law enforcement, I'm ready to take my experience to Des Moines on behalf of the people of District 73. I've seen firsthand how the laws made Under the Golden Dome impact our everyday lives. I know how to bring people together, and pledge to always be transparent and accountable.
On November 3rd, Vote Lonny Pulkrabek for State Representative!
